My favorites, really, are counter.social and diaspora (if you sign up on diaspora, the UI is different and if you want to meet good people, search for #checkin ). The Fediverse servers are mostly volunteer-run and vary in terms of quality of moderation, but there's really no incentive for bad behavior - the server ops and users are pretty good at shutting it down.
