Your Content is Being Used by Thieves

And it’s not because you’re Hemingway.

Why do sites steal content?

You might want to sit down for this. It’s going to sting a bit, but it’s time someone told you the truth: It’s not because they want your Pulitzer-worthy blog posts. That’s why they steal Hollywood movies, bestselling novels, and Getty images, but for the most part, they’re probably just doing one or more of the following:

  • Stealing a site’s web traffic
  • Using your content to generate clicks for their web site (overinflating its perceived value to advertisers or future buyers of their domain name)
  • Selling stolen content, making future buyers vulnerable to costly claims of copyright infringement
  • Landing tracking cookies or malware on visitors’ devices
  • Stealing personal info (fishing, tracking data) that you never consented to give them

Your precious words and images mean nothing to them.

Aren’t You Angry YET?
