Fortunately, I knew the story from my own parents and just laughed at my kid's teachers who suggested that. Not that it's not helpful for some kids, but it's not appropriate to treat the extremely bored, curious, precocious child they can't keep engaged in a class that's still covering material mastered ages ago.
