What you describe isn't righteousness - it's viciousness. It is Orwell's Animal Farm. Or Golding's Lord of the Flies. It's the point at which the horde comes to embody that which it claims to despise, but IMAGINES itself to be righteous.
I like to think that your vision is possible, but the evil genie is out of the bottle and I don't see it happening in our lifetimes - short of an EMP that takes out the entirety of the Internet all at once.
