Weary Bones

If you’re going to be all meta about it…

Ever grow tired of stale platitudes —
Quotations to live by, made lifeless by fools?
“Positive” attitudes, hackneyed “life hacks”
All eager to tell you just what your life lacks.

I am word-weary, right down to the bone
Wish the lexicon-lazy would leave me alone.
Weave yarns with your words, an hour’s escape
Till the world you imagine begins to take shape

And there on the page, we meet in our dreams
In places where all is not as it seems.
Where I am not draped on the couch with a book,
And you are not cramped in your writerly nook.

Where your thoughts and my thoughts awake from a trance
At a meeting of minds, where two dreamers can dance.
