This is good. Have you read The Artist's Way? Or The Right to Write?

Handwriting activates different parts of the brain than typing or drawing. This is one reason that a combination of audio recordings, hand-written notes, and typed notes can help us to study more effectively.

If it helps, my dad used to say that the point of a four year university degree was not to teach you how to do a job, but to teach you how to think critically and demonstrate that you could take on a four-year project and complete it well. If you can read and think, you can learn to do anything.
