The "old GOP"? The one before the Civil War? When, in our lifetimes, did it ever stand for anything "good"?

Sadly, it is far from dead. It sold out the last of its soul to the racist, aggressively mean-spirited Tea Party in 2008 or so - and that has sealed the deal. That this race is even too close to call is telling, and I do not want to look my neighbors in the eye, today, lest they see my contempt.
