The key word there is "only." There's absolutely nothing wrong with writing for money. And you're only partly right - I retired early after spending most of my career as a writer. It is not impossible to make a good living at it, if you approach it with some skill, discipline, and recognition that it is a profession - not some easy, lucrative side gig. (And you don't have to be "perfect" - in fact, if you wait until you're a "perfect writer" you'll starve. You have to be competent, better than average, and you have to enjoy writing. If you don't, I swear that it will be easier to earn a steady income through working in the drive-through at a local fast food restaurant. And at least there, you'll never starve.
