Oh, I think the Editor in Chief created a monster; much the same way Zuckerberg and Dorsey created their monsters. Monsters all grow, and growing pains must be dealt with - that much is inevitable. So you have to have a plan for such growth - if you grow too big, too fast, too aggressively, no army of people singing your praises will save you from your critics. In fact, they'll probably just annoy and inflame the critics into labeling the whole thing "a cult." Healthy growth demands some sort of control and managment, and operating rules so that some departments don't get all the goodies while others starve and product quality begins to get spotty.
