No. Look, I may be retired, but I don't work for others for free. The work required to "make a difference" is a lot, and deserves to be paid. Those excellent editors I once worked with here were editors of their OWN publications - not just volunteers seeking some kind of gatekeeper authority and rubber-stamping everything or admitting only friends - they did put in real effort, but the appreciation of their work, I think, was low. Too many contributors JUST looking for the boost and NOT willing to accept correction. I had some delightful conversations with one of the (real) Editors on rhetoric and linguistics, in addition to the mechanics of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. We had mutual respect, and I took their changes gratefully (99% of the time). I don't think they are active on Medium at all, anymore, and it's Medium's loss. I know what a good editor is worth, and an excellent editor is out of my price range unless they're feeling very generous.
