No. I don't care; in fact, like abstract artists, I hope to give them layers of meaning they might interpret in different ways that are meaningful and personal to them.

I've never really thought about it, but that's what it comes down to. What I DON'T want them to do is to say, "And here, the poet tell us..." as if they are authorities on what I believe or what I was really thinking as I wrote the words. In that sense, I am a working writer. I am not (always) pouring out my heart on the page. There are truths I tell in fiction and poetry, but they are not always literal, obvious, laid out truths. I am no diarist. It bothers me more when THAT is the meaning and interpretation others come aways with - as if they have figured out the writer, rather than themselves.
