More people ought to be honest about this one!
Though I'd argue it's NOT a great idea to steer a 16 year old towards a particular career path in school. 16 year olds have no idea the breadth and depth of choices they'll have in life! Most don't know what kinds of classes they'll have available to them if they can attend university. Funnel them into a path too early, and they'll likely get burnt out young and feel they have to "start over" but are already "over the hill" at 24.
My dad always stressed that the real point of a degree was to prove you could tackle a four-year project and finish it well. To learn things, but mainly to learn HOW TO THINK. Not WHAT to think. I'd urge everyone to take a course in logic.
