Medium is a self-publishing platform, nothing more. You earn more for that client article because it has real, monetary value to your client and they have the right to request changes and make edits.

I think we should all remember that - Medium is naturally focused on what's good for Medium (though I suspect they're throwing spaghetti at the wall and hoping some will stick). Writers should focus on what's best for themselves.
