Lara, I blogged throughout the experience. Some of my favorite comments came from men. One was something like, "I don't know if it's appropriate to laugh at any of this, but this is hilarious and I'm laughing!" I said that if he didn't, I was doing a piss poor job of describing the experience - because given a choice between laughing and crying, one should always laugh. Why add insult to injury? Crying just adds a stuffy nose to all your other misery.
Another couple came from men who thanked me for helping them to feel more at ease talking to the women in their lives about breast cancer - to know what to say. I told them the worst thing to say was nothing. To start shying away from people because we're worried, afraid they might die, afraid we might offend...just say SOMETHING. If it's the wrong something, they'll let you know, right?
