I've had one on my thumb for years. Well, it may be some other kind of slow-growing tumor, but three doctors (none of them hand surgeons) have looked at it, shrugged, and suggested that - if I'm concerned - I should see a hand surgeon. It doesn't hurt, so how concerned should I be? "See a hand surgeon."

But here is the funny part: we have two doctors in the family. My SIL had one of these things, and one of the docs whacked it with a Bible. Boom! It's gone. They keep trying to get me to try it. I'm like, "Do I LOOK concerned enough to smack it with a big book, if I'm not concerned enough to go see a hand surgeon and get him to smack it with a copy of the Physician's Desk Reference?" NO. Leave me alone!

This is always good for 5 minutes' conversation at family reunions.
