I think we’re overusing the term “gaslighting" these days. Most of us understand it to mean an intentional act. What your nurse did was awful and it’s something that’s all too common in the medical profession, usually with doctors: she assumed her expert knowledge applied to your situation and she failed to really listen to you and consider that you might be an expert on your own body. I’ve heard doctors say, out loud, that to their patients they are God. I’d call that hubris, condescending, and negligently dismissive. But I’m not sure “gaslighting" is the word. Medical negligence? Lots of people and things make us doubt and second-guess ourselves, shake our confidence, and put us in harm’s way.
