I think that the human capacity for nostalgia and grief creates the "brokenness" of the songline. The Kookaburras probably just add to or change the song, since they could see everything from above, as the landscape itself changed. It would be fascinating to know this. Perhaps you could write a novel from their perspective, as they watch humans get themselves stuck in brokenness.
