I suspect that what scared her was not so much loss of control, but fear for you — taking on so much debt, upkeep of a house, all the risks she perceived from the decades of life experience she had. It’s easy to forget how competent WE were at 20. As a parent, that still seems so young. Have we adequately prepared you, or have we forgotten something crucial? Will we be able to fix it? It’s hard to step back and get our hearts to believe that’s no longer our job, our responsibility, and to accept that there are lessons only life can teach.
