I remember arguing this with a "writer" (on another side, probably 15-20 years ago); he finally told me in very nasty, pointed terms that I was clearly not intelligent enough to appreciate his brilliance, and was therefore not part of his target audience, and please not to bother reading his crap again. I was happy to comply.

I mean, seriously - all I'd done was correct a few spelling and grammar errors. I hadn't even started in on the CONTENT.

I may have told him that writing screeds that went on and on and on without paragraph breaks might be just a little disrespectful of his readers' time.

I think the real reason they bother us is that we believed, once upon a time, that hard work would pay off; we believed that you had to "pay your dues" in any profession; we believed that "cheaters never prosper," and those balloons have been burst one too many times. Sometimes, the cheating losers win a few.

Don't let it steal your joy.

But feel free to sharpen your claws on them, from time to time. The rest of us are over here laughing, cheering, enjoying the oxytocin and dopamine run-off. ;)
