I don't think we can lump together a person's immutable characteristics (race, gender, ability, intellectual capacity) with their behavior, choices, and beliefs. We've gotten a little confused about the difference between a right to worship (or not) according to the dictates of one's beliefs and a right to believe (and act on that belief) anything and everything, whether it's inhumane or contrary to provable facts.

"I can't be friends with anyone who likes Trump" is shorthand for "I can't be friends with anyone who supports a criminal, misogynistic, racist, Nazi-sympathizing grifter who wants to be a dictator and destroy democracy." In that respect, you can count me as one of those. We know all we need to know about Trump. And no President should have "fans" or "followers." It's just antithetical to the sort of democracy this country was founded on.

Yes, I am close-minded on issues of discrimination against people based on their immutable characteristics. That's our starting and ending point for my open-mindedness.

NOW, IF we weren't talking about Trump, but rather some ordinary person who has little influence or authority, I don't play silly middle school games like "You can't be friends with Susy if you want to be friends with me." But if I have cut Susy out of my life, I do expect my friends to RESPECT that, and not gossip behind my back with Susy about me. And I don't need to hear about Susy, either. The friend of my friend is not always my friend. The enemy of my friend MIGHT be my enemy, but that depends on the harm they cause my friend.
