I’m old school. I’d rather have unbiased search results based on my query, and I’d like a wide range of operators to choose from in formulating my query — all the standard Boolean plus proximity, grouping, phrasing, lemmatization... (No offense to you, Abhi, but it seems like the more software developers try to make the UI “easier for the masses,” they tend to screw things up and it leads to results like this. Maybe there should be “training wheels mode” and give back advanced search capabilities. Although I’d heard that it does take a bit more processing power to do it right.)
Also, if everyone just grumbles about it privately, Medium / Medium Staff / Medium Engineering misses an opportunity to improve things. There really ought to be a great big “Suggestion Box” and someone actively monitoring it but you know how that goes, too. Too much noise to signal ratio, some days — not enough NLP and sentiment analysis. :)
