How to Easily Restrict Comments on Your Posts

Instructions for limiting or closing comments on Medium, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WordPress

I often see people complaining about the comments they receive on Posts — here, or social media, or on their own sites. While I think we should all complain about — no, Report and Block — trolls and harassers, I also think it’s unrealistic to complain about discussion and disagreement on any social media platform that allows and encourages comments.

You can try to say “Positive comments, only! Share my joy!” but that’s just a red flag to a bull out here in social media land, isn’t it? And if the platform offers tools to limit or eliminate discussion, use them. It’s not your readers’ fault if they mistake an open comments section for an invitation to share their thoughts, and you waste everybody’s time if you don’t use the tools at your disposal to communicate whether conversation is welcome or not.

After publishing your story, click the conversation bubble at the bottom of your post to open the Responses pane.

In the Responses pane, click the overflow menu (three dots, upper right corner). Choose Close discussion.
