By the way, both Facebook and Twitter pretended, years ago, that they were rolling out verification to anyone with a heartbeat and a driver's license. You sent them the required info (including a photo of the license - which was pre-RealID, so I'm not too worried about it being used to impersonate me NOW) and they respond "You're not notable enough..." blah blah blah. Well, eff you, too, Facebook and Twitter. So you can imagine how far I spit my coffee when Elon Musk offered it up to anyone willing to PAY for it. For a supposedly smart man, he's an idiot. Very naive in "how the internet, and social media, work." So is Medium, though, with that 100 followers requirement. I think maybe they'd be better off requiring all members of the MPP to be PAID members of Medium, since that's where the revenue pool comes from - paid members reading. $5 isn't all that much, but it says "I'm a member of the community and not just here to milk the cash cow." And I know it's ironic that I say this, because I absolutely do NOT believe in paying to publish. Writers GET paid, we don't pay for the "exposure."
