By dismantling social mores, etiquette, the concept of shame, we have made the job of moderating discourse nearly impossible and grossly unpleasant.

"Free speech" exists to keep us safe from government reprisal when we criticize the government. It exists that we may speak truth to power. It does NOT exist so that we can run around saying "Fuck you!!!" to random strangers just for fun. Allowing BAD behavior - especially on commercial and private websites - actually does weaken the argument FOR free speech, and that is a dangerous path to hack through the wilderness.
