And why is that? It requires the same additional years of graduate level study as a DDS. Or even an MD in some countries. So why shouldn’t someone who’s earned a Juris Doctor degree go by “Dr.”?

Normally, it’s also considered pretentious for anyone (male or female) who is NOT an MD to use “Dr.” outside of academia, but the Bar Association officially approved the use of “Dr.” years ago.

The acceptance or non-acceptance of that shouldn’t be based on gender, though, that’s for damned sure.
