And be honest with yourself. I hate Facebook, but I enjoy the time I spend there because I'm NOT doomscrolling or arguing with strangers. I run my wall like any well-moderated forum, and family and friends insist on staying there as if their lives depended on it - I've given up trying to convince them to make the effort to go elsewhere. One day, it, too, will implode. I won't cry over that, and I hope that anyone who cares to bother will be able to find me again when it does.
I've recommitted to my OWN blog. Really, the ONLY platform anyone can count on is the one they pay for - not the one on which they're the product.
I enjoy the Fediverse. The day advertisers move in, I will close those accounts, too.
I deleted Twitter (15 year old account); Tumblr; Pinterest; Quora...and some I've forgotten offhand. They were all forgettable, so it was time to declutter and leave no trace. I don't miss any of them.
I agree with everything you've said in this post, and that is a rare thing (nothing personal - I mean me, agreeing with everything in ANY post!)
