Change is great! Except when it’s not. How to Complain Effectively.

As Medium works to design a better user experience, the ground shifts and we all feel a few “growing pains.” Long-time users of the platform rejoice or gripe over changes — some people naturally embrace change and thrive on dynamic energy, while others struggle to adjust to any change in their carefully crafted routine.

Change is Good

Change is good when change is needed. Constant improvement, evolution, and growth are good, even when they are initially accompanied by some degree of confusion, loss, and pain in getting used to new ways of doing things.

Change is Bad

Change is bad when it is just change for the sake of change. Busywork. Fluff. To give writers a metaphor that we can all relate to: Change that does not move the story forward should be edited out and left on the cutting room floor.
